Ramp
--Piano Encore
Ramp is a study in momentum, realized through subtle manipulations of rhythm, dynamics and articulation. The control of momentum is contrary to the approach which adheres to the strict interpretation of the score. It cannot be annotated. It is a variable exclusively dependent on the performer. It is not in the score as it cannot be described with black and white notation. It requires the application of individual, spontaneous affectation...almost improvisation.
The central theme of Ramp is void of melodic content. In this piece, it is characterized by the repetition a single note or phrase. How those notes are manipulated in succession --along with the successive manipulation of that phrase and its counter parts-- determines the loss, or gain, in momentum.
Performance time for Ramp is approximately 4 1/2 minutes. A "reference CD" is included to help reduce the learning curve.
Like the other compositions in the "Abstractions Series", Ramp is not just an expression of technique or mood, but of ideas that have their counterparts in literature and art.
